Thread: Project S14 begins, 3 years in the making

Default Project S14 begins, 3 years in the making

Well we finally started on the 240 last night. I bought the car a little over 3 years ago and I was planning on doing the motor and tranny swap a long time ago. I ended up running into some $ issues and the timing just wasn't right. Now that I can actually do the swap I ran into another problem with finding a painter. I had a friend that was going to respray the car, but he ended up getting laid off from his job at Abra. Now this discouraged me so much that I was going to just sell the car and not even deal with it. After thinking it over I couldn't let a little thing like finding a new painter stop me from what I've wanted to do for years. I finally found a new painter that is going to spray the car in 2 months. He has over 20 years experience, a full service body shop in his garage, and a 20 foot enclosed trailer. He comes and picks up the car and delivers it when it's done. Enough of the talk, heres the progress Matt, Justin, Jared, Brian, and I made last night.

KA in it's home, but not for long

    Driveshaft removed

    Matt working

    Automatic FTL!!!!!!!!

    Ready to be lifted out

Goodbye KA you won't be missed

    KA is out

    Leftovers

Some idiot in the engine bay

    I still need to:
    -mount the clutch pedal
    -mount the clutch master cylinder
    -clean up the engine bay
    -clean up the steering rack
-removed EVERYTHING from the engine bay, since it will be painted
-order my IC so I can cut the bumper and holes for the piping in the engine bay before paint

I'm sure theres more, but I will keep this thread updated as I make more and more progress.

will do, thanks a lot for your help so far. I'll be ordering the motor in about 3 months once I save up for everything else. I just don't want to have the motor sitting around while I save up for stuff like exhaust, fuel pump, etc.....

since I'm going from auto to manual you have to change out the driveshaft. I have a 1 piece DriveShaftShop one sitting right behind me.

    nice

you should buy the sr now rather than later. it's getting harder and harder to find sr's that are still good and not overpriced to shit

since most of the motors come with a 90 day warranty, I would rather have the car painted and ready for it, rather than the motor sitting around in the garage for months on end. Once the car is sent out for paint I will be ordering the motor. Last time I talked to the people at heavy throttle and enjuku they said that they will have no problems with getting motors and their prices will remain the same.

Yeah, enjuku and HT are around $3600 but from what I've heard about them you get what you pay for.

    $3600 shipped?

and aren't those warranties only if you have a professional shop install it?

yep, shipped. As for the warrany IIRC that pertains to if you do the install yourself and have them do the wiring.

Glad to see you moving on with this project. What color did you finally decide on? Hopefully the other project is what we have discussed and nothin more.

I still thinking of doing the pearl white. When I talked to Don he said he could do the door jambs and everything if I wanted to do a complete color change, but theres just something about white. It's classy and sexy as hell. As for the other project I need to go to my parents house to look into it more, but I'm still 99% sure the tensioner is the problem.

    Default Driveshaft

    Hey,
How did you like dealing with teh driveshaft shop? I have to get my custom shaft made for the 6spd there , was the service pretty good? Also is that an aluminum one or steel?

that's not terrible and you know you're getting a good motor + customer service

how much do they charge for wiring? (should be included in that $3600 considering there's nothing to it. although, consider having ryan on d-town do it - he makes the harnesses down into like 12 wires)
